Private jet charter
Miami to La Romana

A golf and resort route with a hard winter peak, from December through April. Casa de Campo drives most of the demand, and the tournament and holiday weeks go earliest of all. Outside the season it is one of the easier Caribbean trips to put together at short notice.

The airports

Where you actually take off and land.

KOPF · Departure

Opa-locka Executive

Miami's business-aviation airport, about twelve miles north of downtown and clear of the airline traffic at MIA. Several FBOs, customs on the field, and the base we fly out of most often. Atlantic Aviation handles about nine out of ten of our departures here; Fontainebleau covers the rest.

MDLR · Arrival

La Romana International

The airport for Casa de Campo and Teeth of the Dog, minutes from the resort rather than an hour and a half away in Punta Cana. It is small, quiet and set up for exactly this kind of arrival, which is why guests who have done the drive from PUJ once tend not to do it twice.

From our desk

Everything from the door in Miami to the door coming home

A client called us from Miami wanting to be at Casa de Campo. What he actually needed was not a flight. We arranged the aircraft, the ground transport at both ends, the villa, the drivers, a yacht and his tee times at Teeth of the Dog, and we placed a bilingual assistant on the ground in the Dominican Republic for the length of the stay, so anything that came up while he was there went through one person who spoke both languages. He left Miami and came home without organising a single piece of it himself. His name stays with us, and that is the other half of this work: clients who travel this way do not want to read about themselves on a website. If what you are planning is really a week rather than a flight, say so at the start and we will build it that way.

Questions

Miami to La Romana, answered.

How long is the flight from Miami to La Romana?

The great-circle distance is 774 nautical miles. A super-midsize jet covers it in about 1h 58m block to block; a light jet needs closer to 2h 13m. Winds move these by fifteen to thirty minutes in either direction, and westbound legs are usually the slower ones.

Which aircraft fly Miami to La Romana nonstop?

Light jet, Midsize jet, Super midsize, Heavy jet, Ultra long range. Those categories carry the range for this leg with normal reserves and a full cabin. Smaller cabins can still fly it with a fuel stop, which adds roughly forty-five minutes on the ground.

Which airports and FBOs do you use for Miami and La Romana?

Opa-locka Executive (KOPF) at the Miami end and La Romana International (MDLR) at the La Romana end. We normally use Atlantic Aviation at KOPF. If you already have a preference at either end we use yours, and if a different field suits your ground plans better we will quote that instead.

How quickly can you quote this route?

Most come back within thirty minutes during business hours. A trip that needs international permits or an unusual airport takes longer, and we tell you which yours is rather than leaving you waiting. Either way you get options from certified Part 135 operators with the trade-offs written out.

How we work

A brokerage built by pilots.

We check the operator before you fly

Certificates first, then the aircraft. We pull the operator's Wyvern standing and the assigned crew's type rating, currency and hours on that specific aircraft. Coming from the flight deck ourselves, we know which of those numbers matter and which only look good on paper. If it does not come back clean, we go elsewhere and you never hear about it.

The aircraft has to match the airport

The most common request we turn around is the largest cabin into the smallest field. Sometimes the aircraft simply cannot do it. When that happens we come back with a different cabin, a different airport nearby, or two aircraft, and where it makes sense, a helicopter or a car for the last leg. Getting you there properly is a different job from selling you the airplane you asked for.

Your FBO, not ours

Atlantic Aviation is our home at Opa-locka. Years of working together, and it shows in how our clients get handled. Beyond that we work with Fontainebleau at OPF, Jet Nassau in the Bahamas and Jet Aviation worldwide, plus most major FBOs globally. If you already have a preference at either end, we use yours.

What happens when something breaks

Aircraft go unserviceable and weather closes airports. What separates one broker from another is the twenty minutes afterwards. We have moved a client onto a larger cabin at no extra cost to keep his morning, and we have put a trip together inside an hour for a three in the morning departure. Where we can upgrade you at no additional cost, we do.
